CROMFORD SOLDIER'S DEATH FROM ENTERIC FEVER
A popular Cromford young man, Private
Robert Charles Britland, of the
9th Sherwood Foresters, had died in hospital at Malta from enteric fever.
His parents,
Mr and Mrs Robert Britland, of Cromford Hill, had a wire
on the 16th Sept acquainting them of his illness. They immediately
telegraphed for further particulars, and on Monday another wire came
to hand stating that his death took place from enteric fever on the
15th Sept. The deceased enlisted on the 19th August last year and went
to the Dardanelles with the 9th Sherwood Foresters at the beginning
of July. He was 20 years of age. Before enlisting he worked for
Mr J. Sheppard, farmer, of Cromford.
A brother of his, Pvte. T Britland
is with the Chatsworth Rifles. A cousin, Pvte Harry Britland
also of
the 9th Sherwoods and son of Mr and Mrs Charles Britland, has been
wounded in the arm and leg, but is now making gratifying progress towards
recovery in a London hospital.
