Hi John,
My mother (Nora Coulthread) was born in 1900
and raised in Wirksworth until about 1920. I have a number of old photos,
mostly in the form of post-cards, which have been passed on to me and which
I suspect are of Wirksworth in those days.
My aunt Edith Killer (nee Coulthread) married Harold Killer of
Wirksworth/Middleton. Their daughter Kathleen worked in various offices in
the area, including Matlock. One of the photographs is of a large office of
typists, about 23 desks, with the old manual typewriters. I don't know where
this is but again I wonder if it may be of interest to someone up your way.
-----------------
Here are scans of the photos for your perusal. All except 601d, 601f and
601g are photos as postcards. 601h is the reverse of 601g. 506 is a photo
mounted on card. The postcard of the Maypole dance has the postage on the
reverse given as 1/2d for inland postage; none have any publisher's name.
The office photo 601f is a more modern and conventional photograph. Apart
from that, I really know nothing of them except that I assume they are of
Wirksworth or thereabouts and presumably of the 1905-1925 era.
I should be very interested if the photographs can be identified and in
particular if any of my mother's family can be identified. I will be happy
to send them on to you if you would like them after seeing these 'previews'.
Regards,
Dennis Stansfield
