Annie Mather of Wirksworth

Attached is a photograph of
Annie Mather. It was taken in
approximately 1885, the colour was clearly painted onto the photograph.
In short, Annie Mather was born at Wirksworth in 1862 and was baptised
at the Parish Church on the 29th of May 1863. She was the oldest of
six children born to John Mather and Sarah Ann Mather (nee Clough).
Following the relatively early death of her mother in 1873, Annie
raised her younger siblings at Wirksworth but appears to have moved
away from the town by 1881, possibly to work in domestic service.
In 1885 Annie married Walter Thomas Hawksley at South Wingfield
Parish Church and they lived at Oakerthorpe throughout their married
life where Annie gave birth to two sons and a daughter. Annie passed
away at Oakerthorpe in 1944, aged 81 years.
