Furniss stables.

From an advert in "The Borough Guide to Matlock" published about 1900. William Furniss came from Ashford-in-the-Water, and built his business up to this fine team outside Derwent Livery Stables at Matlock Bridge. He is on the 1891 and 1901 Census. Cab workers in the area had increased greatly
(1851:3, 1861:4, 1871:20, 1881:33, 1891:44 and 1901:48),
largely due to tourists and money coming into Matlock because of the Hydros (Matlock and Matlock Bath accounted for 90% of the industry). But the future was not to be with the horse, and William Furniss junior (12 in 1901) ran charabancs as his father had run cabs and stage coaches before him.
