Kirk Ireton, Holy Trinity Church
Kirk Ireton was included as a township in the parish of Ireton Wood
until 1856. The parish Registers from 1572 are held in the Derbyshire
Record Office in Matlock. The church is Norman and has an interesting
custom known as 'roping for weddings'. Village children put a rope
across the road and the bride and groom are not allowed to leave the
church until a toll has been paid in silver by the groom. The Census
for Kirk Ireton can be found at:
1841,
1851,
1861,
1871,
1881,
1891 and
1901.
