Will of William DOXEY 1907 Matlock Bank


Here's the Will of my Great Grandfather William DOXEY of Matlock, 1838-1906, born in Wirksworth, died at Matlock, married twice, trained as a joiner, listed as a miner at his marriage, became the Clerk of Works at Smedley's Hydro, died of pneumonia at 68 caught waiting for a train.

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Doxey of Matlock Bank in the County of Derby Builder. I give and bequeath my household goods and effects to my wife Eva Rebecca Doxey absolutely and I also give to her an immediate legacy of thirty pounds to be paid out of any cash at my Bankers. I give and bequeath all the residue of my personal estate to my Trustees and Executors hereinafter named upon trust to realise and apply so much as may be necessary to the payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the duty payable on my Estates And then to hold the net residue upon trust to allow the same to remain in whatever investments it may be in at the time of my decease (which I specially authorise them to do) or to invest the same in whatever investments they think proper and to pay the net annual income thereof to my wife for her life or widowhood And upon her death or second marriage to hold the same upon trust to realize the same and divide the net proceeds annually among my children then living in the same way as the proceeds of my real estate I empower my Trustees in their absolute discretion to apply a reasonable amount of the capital in the case of the illness of my wife or any of my unmarried daughters And I also direct that my Trustees shall have power to pay to any or each of my daughters on her marriage Thirty pounds And I direct that neither of the said sums so paid shall be deducted from the share of the child for or to whom the same shall have been paid I give and devise all my Real Estate to my said Trustees upon trust as to the plot of building land in Bank Road to sell the same and after payment of expenses to hold the net proceeds as part of my Residuary Personal Estate And as to the residue of my Real Estate upon trust to receive the rent and profits thereof and after payment of Insurance repairs and all other outgoings to pay the net income thereof to my said wife during her life or widowhood. And upon her decease or second marriage To sell the same by public auction or private contract and after payment of all costs and expenses to divide the same (together with the proceeds of my personal estate) equally among all my children then living and the issue of any then deceased (each taking its parents share equally I appoint my said wife and my son Walter Howe Doxey Trustees and executors of this my Will I revoke all Wills by me heretofore made and declare this to be my last Will In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand the eleventh day of March One thousand nine hundred and five.

On the 19th day of February 1907 Probate of the Will was granted at Derby to Eva Rebecca Doxey and Walter Howe Doxey the executors.
