"PEDIGREES" |
by Thomas Norris INCE 1799-1860 |
Here is a transcription of the 484 pages of this Manuscript Book,
made from a microfilm copy supplied by Derby Local Studies Library.
In most cases abbreviations have been expanded without
comment to avoid confusion.
A new page numbering system is used based on the microfilm frame order.
Ince's original page numbers and the DLSL photocopy reference are given
in red brackets.
The original pages are held at DLSL, are separated,
and unfortunately do not possess a coherent numbering system.
These pages were transcribed by John Palmer, Kathryn Farrell
and Sonia Addis-Smith
between Oct 1999 and Feb 2000.
Proof-read by Sonia and John,
edited and compiled by John.

"To the Critic"
Seek not to shew the devious path Phil trod
Nor draw his frailties from their dread abode
In modest sculpture let this tombstone tell
That much esteemed he lived & much regretted fell
[borrowed from Gray's Elegy in a Country Churchyard]
----------------------------------------------
To obtain this I have had to call upon
Gill PICKARD the Beadle for the keys of
the ch[urch] yard and he particularly desires to
[be] kindly remembered to you.
I certainly feel it very strange yet
that I can set down in my office
after 9 every morning or go out if I
please - it quite seems like stolen
time or protracted holidays - my bank
duties are becoming more agreeable every
week as every week adds to my acquain-
tence with our 1700 depositors.
I am sorry to say that Mrs PEAL's chronic
bronchitis is now supervened by dropsy which
requires every application to reduce - she can
only do with my slippers on.
I am yours truly,
W PEAL
