  1. WEBSTER, COPESTAKE, TOMLINSON, NUTTALL
    Mike Webster (mikewebster777@btinternet.com)
I have traced my family name of Webster back to c.1650. They are in the areas between Wirksworth and Ashbourne - (many of the villages round here). My earliest known ancestor was one John Webster of Hulland (c.1655). I have amassed details of hundreds of relatives from many families including Tomlinson, Copestake and Nuttall. I have found my relatives appearing in Ince's Pedigrees as well as the parish registers. Would love to hear from any 'WEBSTER's who have their roots set in and around Biggin, Bradley, Hulland, Ashbourne, Wyaston and Atlow. Loads of information to share. Mike Webster
  2. KIDD, TOPLIS, GREEN, HOPE, BODEN, BESTALL
    Jackie Askew (jackie.askew@clara.co.uk)
My gt, gt grandfather William KIDD (b.1842 Middleton) ran the Scarthen Nick Printing Office, before he moved to London. His parents were William & Esther HOPE who were born in Staffs. His wife was Mary TOPLIS (1845-1884) daughter of John TOPLIS (1806) and Maria GREEN (1817). Maria was the daughter of James GREEN, grocer (1792) & Mary BODEN (Cromford, c1795).

Siblings of the above married into BIDDULPH, STONE & FURNISS families.

  3. GRIFFIN
    Peter C Turner (pcharlestur@hotmail.com)
I have a 4xg grandfather, John MAWLEY/MORLEY; John married Elisabeth GRIFFIN at St Martin's in Birmingham in 1791. It is believed that Elisabeth's father, Silvanus, was the elder of the two sons of George GRIFFIN and Sarah BAGNITT who were wed in Wirksworth. [Sarah is one of those "IGI isolates" she appears just once, a marriage but no parentage.]
From George GRIFFIN, my 6xg grandfather, two earlier generations take us to the marriage of George GRIFFIN and Elizabeth WIGLEY, two of my sixty-four 8xg grandparents.
One of George and Elizabeth's sons was Bartholomew; there is some evidence from Ince's Pedigrees that a Bartholomew GRIFFIN was the incumbent of St Mary's Parish Church of Wirksworth at the turn of the 16th C.
From the marriage of George and Elizabeth the following surnames have been encountered: GRAYSDALE, WOOLAT, VICARS, BUXTON, COTTERILL, FRITH, CORDIN, LINACRE, MOSS, REDD. BUXTON and FRITH have the most extensive genealogy.
I have no defining or definite corroboration of the ancestral Birmingham marriages, from Silvanus back to Wirksworth I remain satisfied births, marriages, deaths and occupations all tally.
John MORLEY's daughter, Mary Ann, married James TURNER in February 1859 in St Philip's Parish Church in Birmingham. James' ancestry and subsequent history can be seen on the South Derbyshire site of Brett Payne: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~brett/sdindex.htm, see under Surname interests on the Oakthorpe Parish Page.

    John Doxey and son Matthew(Doxjohnmatt@aol.com)
born Rotherham, emigrated 1982 to Sydney, Australia
    See my website at: http://pages.zdnet.com/jojogunne/doxeybennettfamilysite/
Descended from Thomas Henry Doxey, he was born in Bonsall Derbyshire 1867. His Mothers name was Mary Ann born in Bonsall 1843. I have found several Mary Ann's born 1842 and 1844 in Bonsall , but the only Mary Ann who matches the year is one Mary Ann Doxey. Mary was the Daughter of Anthony and Catherine Doxey of Yeomen St. Mary Ann had a Brother Benjamin born 1850 and it is this fact that leads me to believe this Family is the one I have been searching for. One of my Uncles referred to an Uncle Benjamin Doxey from the Matlock area who visited the family of Thomas Doxey in Platt Bridge Lancashire around 1890 to 1910. In 1874 Benjamin and his wife Hannah Elizabeth had a son born named Daniel and was still residing in Bonsall.
Anthony Doxey [ above ] was born in 1815 and his wife was born 1816 locations as yet unknown.
If you are interested in, or know of this particular Doxey Family We would love to hear from you.
